SNIPPETS..... Anthony Payne (M 67-01) writes: “On Saturday I carried out the duty of Town Crier in Whitehaven. The Lammas Fair in Whitehaven, Cumbria, which takes place each year on 12th August, has by law to be announced to the public by the Town Crier. This year both the Town Crier and the Deputy Town Crier were unavailable, so an appeal was put out via Facebook. I contacted the organisers and had the honour of stepping into the role, reading the proclamation in stentorian tones honed by 34 years of schoolmastering!”
